Crossroads Receives the City of Effingham’s Business Appreciation Award
The City of Effingham has named Crossroads Cancer Center as a recipient of the City of Effingham’s Business Appreciation Award.
Mayor Jeff Bloemker stated, “The lives touched in the Effingham region by Crossroads Cancer Center is far-reaching and significant. The compassionate solutions offered by this team in very difficult circumstances is a reason they are not only lauded as great healers, but also exemplary businesspeople.”
In 1985, Dr. James L. Wade III, medical oncologist, expanded his practice from Decatur to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, establishing Cancer Care Specialist of Illinois. In 1989 St. Anthony’s opened a new cancer center in which CCSI continued to see patients. CCSI established Crossroads Cancer Center in 1995 and moved into a temporary location in the Effingham Medical Center, before expanding and constructing their own building, where they are now located at 905 Medical Park Drive. Crossroads Cancer Center has since grown its building with expansions in 2005 and 2016. The Cancer Care Specialists practice has also grown to include 20 locations throughout central and southern Illinois.
Crossroads Cancer Center currently has around 45 employees, many whom have been with the team for quite some time. At least one employee has been with Crossroads Cancer Center since the beginning, with five more employees with almost 20 years of service. The staff plays a very important role as one nominator stated, “We as a community are blessed to have the Crossroads Cancer Center, including Dr. Dy and entire staff caring for our family and friends. Unfortunately, too many of our friends and family have or are attending the facility, although having such world class care in our own back yard is comforting. This group certainly deserves the highest praise and recognition.” Another nominator also stated, “Crossroads Cancer Center is an essential staple to the Effingham and surrounding communities.
Their high-quality staff and equipment provide much-needed comfort and support for patients and their families going through difficult times. I will always recommend their services to anyone battling cancer.”
Not only does Crossroads Cancer Center give back to their patients, they give back to the community. They support the Relay for Life and American Cancer Society events, the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce scholarship program, the Fear Nothing Charitable Fund, and many other fundraisers. They also sponsor the National Cancer Survivors Day Dinner.
Crossroads Cancer Center is part of Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois. CCSI is an interdisciplinary group of 19 physicians and three nurse practitioners who provide medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, and urologic oncology services. The practice has centers in Decatur, Effingham, Centralia, and Swansea, with clinics in 15 other locations. For more information, visit CancerCareSpecialists.org.
We appreciate the positive impact that Crossroads Cancer Center has had on the Effingham Community and we would like to congratulate them on receiving this award.
