What if I am getting a PET/CT scan?
THE DAY BEFORE YOUR PET/CT EXAM
1. 12 hours before your exam, follow a Low Carbohydrate Diet.
- Low-carb options: un-breaded meats, fish, vegetables, eggs, and nuts
- No cough drops, gum or mints
- No sweets, soda, desserts
- No breads, cereals, pastas, potatoes, rice, or dairy
2. 24 hours before your exam, No Strenuous Exercise.
THE DAY OF YOUR PET/CT EXAM
- Arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled time to allow for registration and exam prep.
- DO NOT EAT 5 hours prior to exam. You may drink as much water as you like.
- You may take your medications as prescribed with ONLY WATER.
- Please allow approximately 2 hours for your PET/CT appointment:
- Minimum 45 MINUTE WAIT TIME for PET medicine to absorb into your body.
- Scanning time is 20 to 30 minutes.
- Please bring your own water to drink.
- Wear sweats. Do not wear metal, jeans, belts, or jewelry.
- Ensure all shirt and pant pockets are empty
For Diabetic Patients
Please tell the Imaging Department if you are diabetic.
Diabetic Patients:
- NO diabetic INSULIN shots 4hrs before your appointment.
- Take ORAL diabetic medications with WATER as prescribed.
- Acceptable Blood sugar range: 60 – 200
IMAGING STAFF WILL CALL THE DAY BEFORE EXAM TO CONFIRM PREPARATION.
