Cancer Care Specialists Welcomes Dr. Bassam Maalouf

Decatur, IL – Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, S.C., (CCSCI) is pleased to announce the addition of Bassam N. Maalouf, M.D, medical oncologist/hematologist, to its medical practice. Dr. Maalouf joined Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, S.C., during July 2013.
Dr. Maalouf received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Lebanese University in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Maalouf went on to complete a fellowship in Oncology/Hematology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Maalouf is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board eligible in Medical Oncology and Hematology. He holds membership in the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology, and will soon be a member of the Illinois State Medical Society.
Dr. Maalouf held several medical director positions. He also served as a clinical instructor/clinical assistant professor at the University of Kansas and was a protocol reviewer at the Kansas University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Maalouf has been involved in community education and research programs. He has published several joint research and review articles on prostate cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, including “Bortezomib in Plasmablastic Lymphoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature,” “Targeted use of Alpha Particles: Current Status in Cancer Therapeutics,” “Radiation for bone metastases” and “Second-line chemotherapy for castration-resistant prostate cancer.”
“I am excited to relocate to Illinois,” says Dr. Maalouf. “I am already enjoying getting to know my colleagues and am looking forward to working with patients and families in this area. I believe in providing compassionate care and treating patients like family, and I will always be ready to run the extra mile for my patients.”
Dr. Maalouf will primarily see patients at Crossroads Cancer Center in Effingham and will also see patients at CCSCI clinics in Centralia and Decatur.
